TOLEDO, Ohio - University of Toledo Head Women's Volleyball Coach
Jason Oliver announced today that he has accepted a position as the offensive coordinator of the Grand Rapids Rise. The Rise competes in the Pro Volleyball Federation, an eight-team league that is entering its second season of competition.
"My time at Toledo has been some of the best, both professional and personally," said Oliver. "The Rocket Volleyball program grew in so many ways, just like my personal family did over these past seven years. There are too many people to thank. However, I do want to say thanks to every Rocket I have had the joy of coaching. My coaching staff is extraordinary group of humans that I have been lucky to share the gym with. The future is bright for Rocket Volleyball and the impact these individuals have made on me will stick with me and my family for life. "
This past season, Oliver guided the Rockets to their fourth-consecutive appearance in the Mid-American Conference Tournament, the first time Toledo has done so in the current six-team playoff format. The Rockets finished the season with a 17-14 record, 10-8 in MAC play. Toledo's MAC record over the past four years is 42-30, the best four-year span in school history.
"I would like to thank Coach Oliver for his seven years of hard work and dedication leading Toledo Volleyball," said Vice President and Director of Athletics Bryan B. Blair. "Jason is a talented coach and genuinely good person. We are very grateful for his service to the University, as he elevated our program to new heights. We wish him nothing but the very best as he pursues a new challenge coaching professional volleyball and helping the sport grow beyond the collegiate level."
Oliver took over as head coach of the Rockets in 2018, inheriting a program that had just two winning records in the previous eight seasons. His rebuild took hold in 2021, when he led the Rockets to a 20-13 record, their most wins in 38 years, and earned its first-ever postseason berth with a National Invitational Volleyball Championship (NIVC). In 2022, the Rockets won 19 games (11-7 MAC) and made a return trip to the NIVC. In 2023, the Rockets recorded their second straight 11-7 MAC record and made it to the semifinals of the conference tournament.
Oliver coached numerous All-MAC players in his seven years at Toledo, including
Taylor Alt, who earned first-team all-league honors five times and finished her career as the MAC's all-time kills leader.
A national search for Toledo's next head volleyball coach is currently underway.
