Mercy Kinyanjui and Dominic Serem earn first league honors of their careers
CLEVELAND, Ohio – Toledo freshmen Mercy Kinyanjui and Dominic Serem were named the Mid-American Conference Men's and Women's Cross Country Runners of the Week, as announced by the league on Tuesday morning. This marks the first conference honors for Kinyanjui and Serem.
Kinyanjui led the Toledo women's cross country team to a fifth-place finish in the Sean Earl Loyola Lakefront Invitational in Chicago on Friday afternoon. Kinyanjui finished the women's 6K championship race with a time of 19:43.03, her best finish as a Rocket. The Toledo women's team totaled 131 points in the meet, good for a fifth-place finish in a national field. Toledo placed ahead of No. 29 Texas, No. 10 Wisconsin, Indiana, and Ohio State.
Dominic Serem paced the men's cross country team in the 8K championship at the Sean Earl Loyola Lakefront in Chicago on Friday. The freshman had a final time of 23:07.35, earning a ninth place finish. Serem led the way for Toledo in his second-straight race and competed against All-American competition, earning a top-10 finish. The Toledo men's team competed against No. 18 Wisconsin, No. 10 Alabama, No. 14 Butler as well as NC State, Ohio State and Indiana.

Toledo men's and women's cross country will return to action on Friday, Oct. 18 when they head to Princeton's Fall Classic in Princeton, N.J. and the Falcon Invitational in Bowling Green, Ohio.
