Rockets Finish Season in Scoreless Tie with Ball State

Toledo eliminated from MAC Tournament contention

TOLEDO, Ohio – The Toledo women's soccer team finished up its 2024 season with a 0-0 tie against Ball State at Paul Hotmer Field on Thursday afternoon.

The Rockets (6-7-5, 3-4-4 – 13 pts.) picked up their seventh win or tie in their final nine matches, going 3-2-4 in that span. The Cardinals (7-8-3, 2-6-3 – 9 pts.) snapped a four-game losing streak with the tie. Thursday's results eliminated Toledo from the Mid-American Conference Tournament.

The Rockets were led by a career-high five shots from junior Brooklyn Whitehead, two of them on goal. Graduate student Emily Mann added two more, with one on target. In goal, junior Agnes Stenlund marked her eighth shutout of the season, with six saves on the afternoon.

"We knew Ball State was going to be very tough and they're better than their record," said Head Coach Mark Batman. "They're a talented team and while things didn't click for them this season, they played us tough today. I'm proud of our group and all of the progress we've made this season. We've taken some steps forward, but we just didn't take enough."

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • 28' | Brooklyn Whitehead had a partial breakaway, but her shot was stopped by the goalkeeper at the near post.
  • 73' | Ball State's Kaelyn Valleau took a shot from outside the box that dipped to the lower-left corner, but Agnes Stenlund dove across to make the save.
  • 83' | Ball State had two shots in succession, but Agnes Stenlund stopped both, the first of which came from the middle of the box after the Cardinals got behind the Rocket defense.
  • 85' | Whitehead had an opportunity off a defensive misplay at the top of the box, but the Cardinals' keeper came out to make the stop.
