Senior made a game-high 13 tackles in Toledo's 13-6 win on Saturday
CLEVELAND, Ohio – Toledo safety Maxen Hook has been named the Mid-American Conference Co-Defensive Player of the Week for his performance at Northern Illinois, the league office announced on Monday.
Â
Hook made a game-high 13 tackles, nine of them solo in Toledo's 13-6 victory against the Huskies, his third performance of double-digit stops this year. His outing included a tackle on a 4th-and-1 rush in the fourth quarter, with NIU driving in Toledo territory looking for the tying score. He also broke up a pass in the win.
Â
The New Palestine, Ind. native helped the Rockets' defense force six turnover-on-downs on Saturday, including three in the game's final three minutes. The Rockets allowed just three points in the final 56:43 of the game, and UT held an opponent without a touchdown for the first time since Oct. 14, 2023.
Â
The senior is tied for fourth in the MAC and tied for 23rd in the FBS with 9.0 tackles per game, along with tied for sixth in the country with 5.6 solo tackles per contest.
Â
Hook became the second Rocket this season to win the league's weekly defensive honor this season, joining Darius Alexander, who was named following the Rockets' win over Miami. All told, Toledo has taken five MAC weekly honors this season between offense, defense and special teams.
Â
The Rockets (5-2, 2-1 MAC) are back in action on Saturday, Oct. 26 at 3:30 in the Glass Bowl, taking on Battle of I-75 rival Bowling Green. Saturday's matchup with the Falcons will be streamed on ESPN+.
