Toledo has won three consecutive MAC matches to move into a tie for second place in the MAC.

Toledo Heads to Akron, Buffalo for Weekend Matches

Rockets currently tied for second place in MAC following pair of wins last week

TOLEDO, Ohio – The Toledo women's volleyball team hits the road for a pair of Mid-American Conference matches. The Rockets will take on Akron on Thursday, Oct. 17 and will compete at MAC leader Buffalo on Friday, Oct. 18. Both matches are set to begin at 6:00 p.m. and will be streamed on ESPN+.

Toledo enters the weekend with a 12-7 (5-2 MAC) record and a three-match winning streak after defeating both Central Michigan and Eastern Michigan last week. The Rockets are currently in a four-way tie for second place in the MAC standings, and trail first-place Buffalo by one game.

Akron owns an overall record of 8-11 (4-3 MAC) as the Zips fell to Buffalo and Miami last week. Buffalo has a record of 10-10 (6-1 MAC) and has won their last six matches.

ROCKET NOTES
  • Toledo ranks first in the conference and 35th nationally in aces per set, averaging 1.83 per set. The Rockets are second in the league and 18th in the country in total service aces, totaling 132 on the season.
  • The Rockets swept the MAC Player of the Week honors on Monday. Taylor Alt was named Offensive Player of the Week, Macy Hatkevich earned Setter of the Week and Grace Freiberger took home Defensive Player of the Week.
  • Alt currently ranks first in the MAC and 43rd nationally in total kills (263). Alt is third in kills per set with 3.70.
  • Alt has tallied 1,973 career kills which puts her third all-time in the Mid-American Conference. The Ottawa, Ohio native is 11 kills away from tying the MAC's record and 12 kills away from becoming the all-time leader. Alt is also within the top-three in the NCAA Division I Active Kill Leaders.
  • Freshman libero Grace Freiberger is fifth in the league and 67th in the country in digs per set, averaging 4.39.
  • Redshirt freshman Sierra Pertzborn ranks sixth in the conference in total blocks (84) and blocks per set (1.07).
SCOUTING THE ZIPS
  • Akron is third in the league in assists, dishing out 12.15 per set. The Zips also rank fourth in service aces, averaging 1.74 per set.
  • Senior middle blocker Karleighana Jones is third in the conference in hitting percentage (.399) while senior outside hitter/right side Lauren Baker ranks fifth in the league in kills per set (3.42).
  • Sophomore lilbero Vanessa Del Real leads the defense with 3.53 digs per set.
SCOUTING THE BULLS
  • Buffalo averages 1.75 service aces per set, good for third in the MAC.
  • Sixth year middle blocker Abby Leigh leads the conference in hitting percentage (.415) while fifth year outside hitter Katrin Trebichavska is first in service aces per set (0.59) and second in kills per set (3.89).
  • Senior setter Mandy Leigh is third in assists per set, averaging 9.20.
  • Senior libero Maria Futey leads the team in digs, averaging 3.95 digs per set.
SERIES STUFF
  • Toledo leads the all-time series with Akron, 30-24.
  • The Rockets hold the advantage over the Bulls, leading the all-time series, 25-7.
UP NEXT
Toledo returns home to host Miami for a pair of matches on Thursday, Oct. 24 and Friday, Oct. 25. Both are set to begin at 6:00 p.m. with coverage on ESPN+.
