TOLEDO, Ohio – The Toledo women's basketball team has earned Special Mention distinctions from the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) in the organization's 2022-23 Division I Academic Honor Roll.
With a cumulative team GPA of 3.556, Toledo ranked 28th among all Division I women's basketball programs this past season. The Rockets posted a 3.492 team GPA during the 2023 spring semester, the 25th straight semester they have achieved a cumulative team GPA of 3.0 or higher.
Nine student-athletes earned Honor Roll distinctions during the spring semester with 3.0 GPAs or higher, while Yaniah Curry, Ella Doherty, Nan Garcia, Jayda Jansen, Sammi Mikonowicz, and Bella Swedlund were all named to the President's List with perfect 4.0 GPAs.
Impressively, Toledo reached these academic benchmarks while achieving one of the best seasons on the court in program history. The Rockets won their 11th MAC Regular Season Championship and captured their ninth MAC Tournament title, advancing to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2017. Toledo also won its first NCAA Tournament game since 1996, taking down No. 5 seed Iowa State in the first round on March 18. The win was the 17th in a row for UT, which set a new school record for longest winning streak in school history.
The WBCA Academic Honor Roll recognizes NCAA Division I, II and III, NAIA and two-year college women's basketball teams across the nation that carry the highest combined GPAs inclusive of all student-athletes on their rosters for the entire season.
