SANTORINI, Greece – The sixth day of the Toledo women's basketball team's trip to Greece coincided with its final full day on the island of Santorini on Saturday.
The first activity scheduled was a visit to the Akrotiri Archeological site. Those who participated had a chance to see the extensive ruins of this Bronze Age settlement that have been enclosed within a substantial structure. Walkways enable visitors to walk among the excavated section of the Minoan port town, which was covered in volcanic ash in the 16th century. A small group also hiked from Fira to Oia in the morning, a seven-mile hike with breathtaking views of the island.
In the afternoon, many of the adult members of the travel party visited Artemis Karamolegos Winery for wine tasting. For dinner, the travel party bussed into Oia in time to witness a stunning sunset, a perfect end to the final full day in Santorini.
"Visiting the archeological site was a lot of fun," Khera Goss said. "It was cool to see everything and learn the history behind it, how they built it all is pretty incredible. Santorini has been so much fun, we've had a great time. It's been really great spending time with our teammates and bonding. That's what it's all about."
Toledo flies back to Athens on Sunday afternoon for the final leg of its trip.
