TOLEDO, Ohio - The University of Toledo Athletic Department and Rocket Sports Properties announced today that Mark Beier will return to his role as radio play-by-play announcer for Rocket football and men's basketball games next year.
Beier served as the radio voice for Rocket football and men's basketball for 21 years before retiring in 2016. He returned to handle play-by-play for Toledo men's basketball in January.
Beier, who recently retired from his role as manager for business development for Rocket Sports Properties, began calling Toledo football in 1995. A year later, he added men's basketball to his duties. In 2014, Beier was honored by the University of Toledo Varsity T Club with the Distinguished Service Award in for his efforts on behalf of the Rockets.
Beier will be joined in the football booth by former Indianapolis Colt offensive lineman Jack Mewhort. Mewhort, a native of Toledo who played high school football at St. John's Jesuit, played college football at Ohio State and was drafted in the second round of the 2014 NFL Draft. He played four seasons for the Colts before retiring in 2018.
Returning for his seventh season as the football sideline reporter is Mike Robinson.
For men's basketball, Beier will team up with veteran color analyst Jay Lehman. A Varsity T Hall of Famer who played for the Rockets from 1977-81, Lehman will be entering his 25th year calling the action on press row.
