Cork, Ireland native will join Rockets’ program as a graduate transfer in 2023-24 season
TOLEDO, Ohio – Director of Cross Country and Track & Field Andrea Grove-McDonough announced the signing of Laura Nicholson to the Rockets' program for the 2023-24 season.
Nicholson will come to Toledo as a graduate transfer from Temple University, where she competed for three seasons in cross country and four seasons in track & field for the Owls.
In cross country, Nicholson earned all-conference honors for finishing in 14th place at the 2022 American Athletic Conference Championship meet. She went on to lead her team and run to a 26th-place finish at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regionals. During the 2022 outdoor track & field season, Nicholson took two silver medals at the ACC Outdoor Championships in the 800m and 1500m races, and advanced to the NCAA East Regionals in the 1500m where she finished 45th in the prelims.
Originally from Cork, Ireland, Nicholson won the U-19 3000m Irish Girls Nationals as junior, was a two-time U-20 Cross Country Irish Nationals top-5 finisher, took third at Senior Girls Schools Cross Country Championships in 2018, and finished runner-up in the 2km 2016 Beach Sun at the Surf Lifesaving World Championships.
