Toledo Hosts Central Michigan for Mid-Week Action Before In-State Series at Kent State

Rockets will play three-game series at Scott Park vs. Chippewas to open a new week of conference play

TOLEDO, Ohio – The Toledo softball team will jump right back into Mid-American Conference play with two series on deck. The Rockets will play a mid-week series vs. Central Michigan on Tuesday-Wednesday, April 11-12 at Scott Park before visiting in-state rival Kent State on Saturday-Sunday, April 14-15

Tuesday's single game and the first game of Wednesday's doubleheader will be broadcasted on ESPN+ can streamed locally on BCSN.

About Toledo (13-19, 6-8 MAC)
Toledo is coming off a series win at Ball State over the weekend after taking two of three vs. the Cardinals. The Rockets opened the series with a 5-1 win on Friday at First Merchants Ballpark Complex, and Erin Hunt threw the fifth shutout of the season in Game 1 of Saturday's doubleheader. The Cardinals took over in the series finale, scoring six runs before Toledo scored a run in the seventh to avoid the shutout.

Anna Dixon hit .400 over three games, scoring three runs and driving in two to lead UT's offense in Muncie. Jenna Kroll slammed one out of the park for her sixth of the season, while Sidney Griffith collected her first triple on the year.

  • Toledo's 13 wins this year has already surpassed last season's total of 12 victories.
  • Kroll's homer moved her into eighth place on the Rockets' all-time career list with 17 career home runs. She is two homers behind Rhonda King's 19 career home runs from 1987-90.
  • Hunt's shutout was her sixth of the season and 15th in her career which is third all-time for a Toledo pitcher. Tami Johnston holds the Toledo record with 43 in her career (1984-87), and Christina Chadwick is second with 28 shutouts from 1989-92.
  • Saturday's win was also Hunt's 56th of her career which is tied for fourth all-time in UT history with Desiree Abrego (1993-96) and one behind from Patty Barrett (57, 1987-90).
  • Hunt is holding opponents to a .194 batting average which leads the Mid-American Conference. She is second in the league with a 2.46 ERA.
About Central Michigan (16-18, 6-5 MAC)
Central Michigan shut out conference-leader Ohio in the first two games of its series, 6-0 and 5-0, in Mount Pleasant before falling in the series finale on Saturday afternoon. The Chippewas are second in the MAC with a .294 batting average and their pitching is third in the conference with a 3.31 ERA. Abby Tolmie leads CMU's offense with a MAC-best .417 batting average and has 50 hits this season.

About Kent State (9-23, 4-6 MAC)
Kent State won its opening game against Northern Illinois before dropping both ends of a doubleheader over the weekend. Freshman Bri Despines is leading the Golden Flashes with a .333 average and also has two homers and 14 RBIs. KSU will visit Ohio for a mid-week series before hosting Toledo to close out the weekend.

On Deck
After this weekend, the Rockets will be back home for a three-game series with Northern Illinois on Friday-Saturday, April 21-22.
