RALEIGH, N.C. – Sophomore Joy Chirchir and freshman Karina James recorded top-10 times in school history in their respective events to lead the Rockets on the second day of the Raleigh Relays on Friday.
Chirchir posted a time of 16:21.90 to finish in 24th-place in the 5,000m, the fifth-fastest time in school history. James finished 40th in the 1,500m while making her collegiate outdoor track & field debut, with a time of 4:25.84 that ranks eighth all-time on the outdoor top-10 list.
Junior Madeline Vining and sophomore Morgan Hicks also represented Toledo in the 5,000m race. Vining came within two seconds of her PR at that distance, crossing the finish line in 31st-place with a time of 16:25.41. Hicks broke her old PR by 12 seconds, completing the race in 16:55.04.
Freshman Lianna Surtz clocked a time of 4:32.06 in her first collegiate 1,500m race. Joining her was junior Krystal Clark, who crossed the finish line at 4:41.13.
Alexia Moehling was the lone Rocket to compete in the 100H. The senior posted a time of 14:34 to finish 31st in the event.
Also competing in Raleigh was Jake Rethman of the Toledo men's cross country team. The senior raced in the 10,000m, recording a personal best time of 30:42.46.
The Rockets will return to action on Saturday for the final day of the Raleigh Relays. Field events will begin at 9:45 a.m., with running events to start at 1:00 p.m.
