Toledo Heads to Louisiana for Mardi Gras Mambo

Rockets will play five games in three days at the Youngsville Sports Complex

TOLEDO, Ohio – The Toledo softball team will board a plane and head down to Youngsville, La. to play five games in the Mardi Gras Mambo on Friday-Sunday, Feb. 17-19 at the Youngsville Sports Complex.

Last Time Out
  • Toledo went 2-2 in its first weekend of competition at the Pinnacle Blue Hose Invitational last Friday and Saturday. The Rockets' 6-5 win over Bellarmine was the first of the season and first for first-year head coach Jessica Bracamonte.
  • Erin Hunt threw a one-hit shutout in the 2-0 victory vs. Bellarmine on Saturday, going the distance in the circle and throwing 12 strikeouts. Hunt, who had not played since May 2021 due to an injury, has 499 career strikeouts, the second-most in Toledo history behind Tami Johnston (1984-87) who had 842 in her career.
  • Jenna Kroll had an explosive first weekend in the Midnight Blue and Gold uniform, hitting two home runs, one being the game-winning grand slam vs. Bellarmine on Friday. Kroll had five hits in 11 at-bats (.455), five RBIs and a 1.000 slugging percentage.
About Louisiana Tech (3-1, 0-0 CUSA)
  • The Lady Techsters swept their opening three-game series with Southeast Missouri last weekend before falling to Southeastern Louisiana in a single game on Wednesday night.
About Southeastern Louisiana (4-0, 0-0 SLC)
  • The Lions swept its first weekend series of 2023, taking all three games vs. Missouri State. SLU hosted Louisiana Tech in a single-game matchup Wednesday night and hit a walk-off sacrifice fly in the seventh to win the game 5-4.
About Houston Christian (4-2, 0-0 SLC)
  • HCU took the field vs. Texas Southern for a single game on Wednesday night in Houston and ended its home-opener with an 8-0 shutout.
About Nicholls State (1-3, 0-0 SLC)
  • Alexa Poche' leads the Colonels' offense with a .455 average, with five hits in 11 at-bats, hitting one out of the park and one double.
  • In the circle for Nichols State, Audre McNeill has a 2.47 ERA with nine strikeouts, and has given up eight hits through11.1 innings of work.
About Northwestern State (1-3, 0-0 SLC)
  • In the circle, Maggie Darr has a 2.86 ERA through 14.2 innings of work, has given up 13 hits, and tossed 18 strike outs.
Up Next
The Rockets will head south to Louisville, KY in two weeks for the Louisville Cardinal Softball Classic. Toledo is scheduled to play Northwestern, Northern Kentucky and Louisville on Friday-Sunday, March 3-5.
