CINCINNATI, Ohio – The Toledo men's tennis team ended the weekend with a 4-3 loss at Xavier on Sunday at Cincinnati to snap its four-match winning streak. The Rockets won two of its three matches in the past four days, defeating Wayne State on Thursday and Dayton on Saturday.
Toledo made a statement in doubles play, capturing the team point from two 7-6 decision victories from
Pawit Sornlaksup and
Vlad Meluta at the No. 2 court, and
Luis Kleinschnitz with
Matias Olivero at the No. 3 court.
Four of the six singles courts ended in three set decisions, but Sornlaksup and Meluta settled their respective courts in two sets. Sornlaksup defeated Ryan Cahill to extend his winning streak to 28-straight matches from the No. 1 court. Meluta was on the losing side of a two-set decision over Jorge Santamaria at the No. 6 spot. Xavier clinched the match after winning a three-set decision from the No. 3 court. Olivero got the last victory of the night for Toledo at the No. 4 court after Kyle Totorica prevailed in a three-set decision.
"We were actually disappointed losing three, three-setters today in a match like this," head coach
Al Wermer said, "but that's not why we play such a competitive non-conference schedule. I have no doubt this loss will help us."
Toledo will be back home this Friday for a doubleheader vs. Chicago State at 1:00 p.m. and Duquesne at 7:00 p.m. at Shadow Valley Tennis Club.
