TOLEDO, Ohio – The Toledo women's basketball team will look to extend its current six-game winning streak this weekend when it visits Miami. The Rockets (18-4, 9-2 MAC) and RedHawks (9-15, 4-7 MAC) will tip off on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. in Millett Hall on ESPN3.
Toledo is coming off a 91-73 home win vs. Buffalo on Wednesday, its sixth straight win which is tied for its longest winning streak this season. The win kept the Rockets one game out of first place in the Mid-American Conference standings. Bowling Green (10-1) and Ball State (10-1) have won 10 straight games and eight straight games, respectively, to keep their one-game cushion atop the conference. Toledo will play both Ball State (Feb. 25) and Bowling Green (March 4) near the end of the regular season.
In Wednesday's win vs. Buffalo, the Rockets led for nearly the entire game and turned in one of their best offensive performances of the season. They cracked the 90-point barrier for the third time and assisted on 23-of-31 field goals while committing a season-low five turnovers. Toledo was 15-of-33 from beyond the arc, the most made threes in a game since sinking 16 vs. Akron on Jan. 14, 2015. The five turnovers are the fewest since committing just three vs. Charlotte on March 30, 2011.
Quinesha Lockett was terrific vs. the Bulls, scoring 25 points while sinking a career-best seven three-pointers. Lockett's seven threes are one off the single-game record of eight, which is held by four different players.
Lockett ranks fourth in the MAC in scoring (17.7 PPG) and is averaging 20.5 PPG in MAC play. She is one of three Rockets averaging double figures in scoring against league competition, being joined by Sammi Mikonowicz (10.8 PPG) and Sophia Wiard (10.8 PPG).
The Rockets won the previous meeting with Miami on Jan. 25, 82-63. Lockett scored 22 points on 10-of-13 shooting in that game and dished out six assists. Khera Goss and Jessica Cook each scored 12 points against the RedHawks.
Toledo will visit Western Michigan on Wednesday, Feb. 15 before returning home on Saturday, Feb. 18 vs. Eastern Michigan at 2:00 p.m. That game will be UT's annual "Rockets for the Cure" game, which will help benefit Susan G. Komen for the Cure of Northwest Ohio and the Eleanor N. Dana Cancer Center. The Rockets encourage everyone in attendance to wear pink that day in support of breast cancer research.
