MILWAUKEE, Wisc. – Toledo's Pawit Sornlaksup and Adam Kovac had a long day of competition at the 46th Annual Milwaukee Tennis Classic Friday afternoon. Sornlaksup and Kovac each went 1-1 in singles competition and lost to the No. 4 doubles team from Wisconsin.
"I am pretty happy overall with how our guys competed," graduate assistant coach Igor Kolaric said. "Coming off summer break and playing in such prestigious events like Pawit and Adam did to play in a tournament like this is not easy. They definitely improved over the summer, and the next step is going to get in as many competitive matches as possible."
Kovac and Sornlaksup started the day with doubles competition, going against No. 4 ranked team of Jason Hildebrant and Jared Pratt of Wisconsin. The Rockets kept it close the entire match but were defeated 6-4.
In singles competition, Sornlaskup won his opening match vs. Marquette's Thomas Nelson, 6-4, 6-3. Wisconsin's Hildebrandt then defeated Sornlaksup 6-4, 6-0 in the Round of 16 to end Sornlaksup's time in the tournament.
Kovac dropped his first match to No.7 Maxence Bertimon of VCU 6-0, 7-5. He moved into the consolation bracket where he advanced to the quarterfinals match due to a walkover from Wisconsin's Robin Parts.
Kovac's quarterfinals match will begin Saturday morning at 9:00 a.m. CT (10:00 a.m. ET).
