TOLEDO, Ohio – The Toledo cross country teams will embark on the first race of the 2022 season this Friday in Athens, Ohio at the Ohio XC Invitational. The men's race begins at 11:00 a.m., followed by the women's race at noon. Both races will be 5,000m.
Earlier this week, the Toledo women were picked sixth and men picked 14th in the USTFCCCA Division I Cross Country Great Lakes Regional Preseason Coaches Rankings.
The Rockets return the six of their top seven runners from the women's 2021 MAC Championships team, including meet winner and Freshman of the Year
Joy Chirchir. The other top runners returning include
Faith Linga,
Madeline Vining, and team captains
Lou Trois,
Emily Vining,
Jordyn Boyer and
Margrett Watt. Linga and Trois finished fifth and seventh, respectively, at the conference meet to earn first-team All-MAC accolades.
On the men's side, Toledo returns include captains
Benjamin Otis,
Mathew Chesum and
Jake Rethman. Otis and Chesum finished eighth and 10th, respectively, at the MAC Championships to earn second-team All-MAC accolades, helping the Rockets to a program-best runner-up finish at the meet.
