TOLEDO, Ohio – Former track and cross country runner
Stephanie Sherman has been named the University of Toledo's nominee for the 2022 NCAA Woman of the Year Award.
Sherman was a two-time runner-up in the 10,000m at the MAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships, earning second-team All-America honors in that event by coming in 16th place at the 2021 NCAA Championship Meet. She also came in second place in the 5000m at the 2021 MAC Outdoor Championships. Sherman held a 3.94 GPA while earning her bachelor's degree in bioengineering in May of 2021, and is currently working on her MBA. She was a 10-time Academic All-MAC selection in cross country and indoor/outdoor track & field, and was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team in 2021. A team captain, Sherman also served as vice president on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and was a mentor in the "Girls on the Run" program.
Following the nominations from individual institutions, conference offices across the country will select their nominees for NCAA Woman of the Year in August. Conference nominations are forwarded to the NCAA Woman of the Year Selection Committee, which identifies the Top 10 honorees in each of the three NCAA divisions. From those 30 honorees, the selection committee then determines the three finalists in each division for a total of nine finalists. The Committee on Women's Athletics will select the 2022 NCAA Woman of the Year from the nine finalists.
For the first time in the award's history, the award ceremony will take place during the NCAA Convention in January, giving the Top 30 honorees a chance to celebrate their achievements alongside their families, coaches, and administrators attending the 2023 NCAA Convention.
Established in 1991, the NCAA Woman of the Year award honors graduating female college athletes who have exhausted their eligibility and distinguished themselves in academics, athletics, service and leadership throughout their collegiate careers.
