BOCA RATON, Fla. - The Toledo Rockets arrived in Florida Friday afternoon in anticipation of their matchup with Liberty in the 2022 Roofclaim.com Boca Raton Bowl on Tuesday, Dec. 20 (7:30 p.m./ESPN).
After landing at Palm Beach International Airport, the team went directly to their hotel in Boca Raton where they enjoyed a welcome party. Head Coach
Jason Candle joined bowl hosts and Liberty Interim Head Coach Josh Aldridge for the introductory news conference at the Cox Science Center in West Palm Beach.Â
"We're honored to be part of the Roofclaim.com Boca Raton Bowl again," said Candle, who coached his very first game as head coach at the 2015 Boca Raton Bowl, a 32-17 victory over No. 24 Temple. "Our guys are super excited about the opportunity. I know from being here in the past what the hospitality is like here. (Executive Director) Doug Mosley and his staff do such a great job. A quick thank you to Roofclaim.com and all the other title sponsors, as well as the city of Boca Raton and Palm Beach County. Football is a priority here, and I think that makes it a great experience for both teams. We have a lot of players from the state of Florida on our team, so it's something our guys are really looking forward to."
Toledo (8-5) is the champion of the Mid-American Conference following its 17-7 victory over Ohio at the MAC Championship Game in Ford Field at Detroit on Dec. 3. Liberty (8-4) is a FBS independent, with victories over Arkansas, BYU and Southern Miss to its credit this season.
The Rockets will have three practices at nearby Boca Raton High School before squaring off against the Flames on Tuesday. In addition to preparing for the game, the Rockets will enjoy a beach party on Saturday and a team bowling event on Sunday, as well as free time to enjoy themselves in the area or at the game room in the hotel. On Sunday, a select group of players will visit patients at Baptist Health Boca Raton Hospital.
