Rockets Heading to WMU for Black Friday Battle

11/23/2022 8:10:00 AM

TOLEDO, Ohio – The Toledo Rockets (7-4, 5-2 MAC) travel to Western Michigan on Black Friday, Nov. 25 for their final regular season game of the 2022 campaign before heading to Detroit for the MAC Championship Game vs. East Division champion Ohio on Dec. 3.

Toledo is a one game ahead of second-place Eastern Michigan in the West Division but has clinched the trip to Ford Field due to a 27-24 victory over the Eagles on Oct. 29. A win by the Rockets over WMU or an Eastern Michigan loss to Central Michigan on Nov. 25 would seal the outright division crown for Toledo.

Toledo is coming off a tough 42-35 loss to Bowling Green on Nov. 15. Toledo trailed 34-21 with 9:20 remaining, but redshirt freshman quarterback Tucker Gleason rallied the Rockets, rushing for one-yard rushing touchdown with 51 seconds left on the clock to give UT a 35-34 lead. Toledo's jubilation was short-lived, however, as Bowling Green's Matt McDonald hit Ta'ron Keith for a game-winning 42-yard score with nine seconds remaining, giving the Falcons the Battle of I-75 trophy for just the second time in the last 13 meetings between the two rivals.

Western Michigan (4-7, 3-4 MAC) is coming off a 12-10 triumph over arch-rival Central Michigan on Nov. 16 in a contest that was played in several inches of snow at CMU's Kelly/Shorts Stadium. Sean Tyler ran for a career-best 177 yards and a touchdown on a career-high 26 carries and Palmer Domschke kicked the game-winning 25-yard field goal with 1:52 to play.
