TULSA, Okla. – Toledo junior
Pawit Sornlaksup won his opening match of the ITA All-American Championships Monday afternoon, defeating Columbia's Max
Westphal in a close 7-5, 6-3 final.
Sornlaksup and
Marko Galic also played doubles competition but lost in the Round of 64 in an intense three-set match vs. David Stevenson/ Pablo
Alemany from the University of Memphis. Toledo won its first set, dropped its second set, and fell in the final tiebreaker set to end their run in the tournament.
"Pawit's singles match was a strategic masterpiece," head coach
Al Wermer said. "It was an outstanding start to his tournament. The doubles event today was a seesaw event vs. an explosive Memphis team."
Sornlaksup will continue his run in the tournament in the Round of 64 on Tuesday morning.
