TOLEDO, Ohio – The University of Toledo women's tennis team closed out its home opening weekend at Twos Athletic Club Sunday morning with a 5-2 victory over defending Horizon League Champions University of Illinois-Chicago. The victory makes the Rockets 3-1 in dual matches this season, including 2-0 at home.

UIC swept the doubles point thanks to victories on the No. 3 and No. 1 courts. Sophomores Shalini Tallamraju and Julia Kuszynski were ahead 5-4 on the No. 2 court when play was ruled unfinished.

The Rockets came back with vengeance in the singles competition, winning five of six matchups. Tallamraju and seniors Eileen Carney and Patricia Panta all won their matches on the lower courts in two sets to put the Rockets ahead in the match. Sophomore Cassie Alcala was on the winning end of two very close sets on the No. 1 court for the victory over Agnes Gustafsson. Junior Sloane Teske had a comeback victory on the No. 2 court over Tamara Malazonia to end the match for the Rockets.

"To take five singles matches from a team as experienced as UIC is a big deal," said head coach Tracy Mauntler. "I'm so impressed by the competitiveness and intensity we played with today. We are showing a lot of confidence early in the season."

Toledo will return to Twos Athletic Club on Friday, Feb. 4 for a double dual meet with Wayne State and Findlay.
