Toledo Softball to Play Charity Game Against USA Patriots

8/24/2021 2:27:00 PM

TOLEDO, Ohio - The Toledo softball team will be participating in a charity game on Saturday, Aug. 28 against the USA Patriots, America's amputee softball team. The game is set for a 5 p.m. first pitch at Mercy Field and will be a slow pitch game. Admission will be $5 with proceeds benefiting the USA Patriots, a charity for wounded veterans.

"We are honored to be included by the USA Patriots for this fantastic cause," said Head Coach Joe Abraham. "I can't think of a more worthy cause than giving back to wounded veterans. We hope there will be a good crowd there on Saturday as our team sees whether their fast pitch game can translate to slow pitch."

The Rockets will be playing in the third game of the day. At 1:30 p.m. the USA Patriots will be playing the Toledo Police Department before facing a team of local celebrities, medical personnel and veterans at 3 p.m. Opening ceremonies for the day will begin at 1 p.m.

Prior to Toledo's game, the colors will be presented by M/Sgt. Steven Kocinski with a bagpipe tribute by Chris Malhoit, a retired Toledo firefighter, as well as the National Anthem being performed by Liz Wilson.
