Simiuc's Effort in 1500M Secures Spot in NCAA East Prelims

CLOVIS, Calif. – Senior Petronela Simiuc set a personal best in the 1500 meters at the West Coast Relays in Clovis, Calif. on Friday, finishing in sixth place with a time of 4:13.62. Simiuc's time ranks her 14th in the country and secures her a spot in the NCAA East Preliminaries in Jacksonvile, Fla. on May 27-29.

"Last night's race was a culmination of all the weeks and months of hard work that Petra has been putting in," said Head Coach Andrea Grove-McDonough. "She believed in the process and was rewarded with a new personal-best. She executed a perfect race in almost complete darkness due to a power outage, and was still able to beat some of the best women in the NCAA. I am so proud of her poise this entire season, and we are now ready for her to compete in the post season."

Simiuc's performance closes out the regular season for the Rockets. She heads into next weekend's Mid-American Conference Outdoor Championship Meet in Oxford, Ohio ranked first in the MAC in both the 1500m (4:13.62) and the 800m (2:08.39).
