TOLEDO, Ohio – The University of Toledo men's tennis team will host Northwestern Ohio on Friday afternoon at Shadow Valley Tennis Club. The match is set to start at 1:00 p.m.
"We had a good week of workouts," head coach
Al Wermer said. "We can glean information from every live match we play. We are approaching the match with some goals and are going to extrapolate areas moving forward. This is the greatest value for the non-conference phase of our schedule."
Last Time Out
The Rockets opened their 2021 season last week with a home contest against Saint Francis, defeating the Red Flash 7-0.
On the No. 1 doubles court, junior
Cole Shoults and sophomore
Krzysztof Wetoszka teamed up to win 6-2, while sophomores
Luis Kleinschnitz and
Max Skaer took care of business on doubles court No. 3 by a score of 6-2.
In singles play, Shoults came away victorious on the top court by defeating SFU's Sebastian Pinos (6-4, 6-3), and his doubles partner Wetoszka dominated on court No. 3 in a 6-0, 6-0 win. Freshman
Adam Kovac won his first collegiate match against Christian Banti (6-1, 6-3), while seniors
Thawin Suksathaporn (6-3, 6-1, No. 2 court) and
Filip Zupancic (6-0, 6-1, No. 6 court) both dispatched of their opponents as well. Rounding out singles competition was Skaer, who defeated Daniel Vinces on the No. 5 court by a score of 6-2, 7-6.
Fan attendance policy
There will be no general admission fan attendance allowed at Toledo men's tennis indoor matches this season. Only immediate family members of student-athletes will be allowed at the venue.
About Northwestern Ohio
Friday's match will be the first of the season for the Racers. They return an experienced team with three seniors and three juniors, including David Ayguavives and Marcos Salazar, who earned conference player of the week honors last season. UNOH was ranked No. 17 nationally in the NAIA Coaches Poll last year before the season ended in March.

Toledo will visit Youngstown State on Friday, Feb. 19 at 5:00 p.m. before returning home for its next six matches.
