TOLEDO, Ohio – The University of Toledo women's basketball team hosted Northwestern Ohio on Sunday in an exhibition contest and ran away with an 88-23 victory.
"It was nice to see a solid effort from everyone on our roster today," head coach
Tricia Cullop said. "We can't wait for the regular season to begin."
The Rockets played suffocating defense on Sunday, collecting 24 steals and holding the Racers to just 10 points combined in the final three quarters. Toledo shot 46 percent (28-for-61) from the field in the game, while UNOH made 25 percent (8-for-32) of its shots. UT also won the rebounding battle, 40-26, and hauled in 19 offensive rebounds to Northwestern Ohio's six.
Individually, 14 different Rockets scored and three reached double figures. Junior
Quinesha Lockett led all players with 17 points, and senior
Jayda Jansen and sophomore
Khera Goss both contributed 10 points. Jansen also had a game-high seven steals, while junior
Sophia Wiard stuffed the stat sheet with six assists, five steals, three rebounds, and three points. Junior
Hannah Noveroske posted eight points and a game-high eight rebounds, and teammates
Nan Garcia and
Sammi Mikonowicz matched her scoring output with eight points apiece.
Next up for Toledo is its season opener at Oakland on Tuesday, Nov. 9. The Rockets host Wright State on Saturday, Nov. 13 in their first home game of the 2021-22 season.

st Quarter
- Toledo started the game off on a 12-3 run, scoring 10 straight points after the Racers' Jada Haines made a three-pointer to put her team ahead 3-2.
- Mikonowicz scored six of the first eight points for Toledo, making a layup to open the game before making her first four free throw attempts.
- The Rockets did an excellent job forcing turnovers in the first quarter, accumulating eight steals. Jansen accounted for three of those thefts and Wiard collected two.

nd Quarter
- The Rockets dominated the second quarter, outscoring the Racers 32-3 to take a 52-16 lead into halftime.
- After a UNOH basket at the 8:02 mark, UT surged ahead with a 26-1 run to end the first half. Twelve of those 26 points came off turnovers.
- Toledo shot 57.9 percent (11-for-19) from the floor in the second quarter and held UNOH to just 1-of-7 shooting.
- Twenty-six of Toledo's 52 points came off turnovers in the first half. UT registered 13 steals in the first two quarters, four of them courtesy of Wiard.

rd Quarter
- Lockett scored the first five points of the third quarter, pushing Toledo's lead into the 40's at 57-16.
- UNOH's Kalea Kruser's bucket at the 7:25 mark was the Racers' first field goal in over 10 minutes of game time.
- Toledo would hold Northwestern Ohio without a field goal for the remainder of the quarter, scoring 14 of the next 15 points to put the score at 71-19 through three quarters.
- Jansen had four points and three steals in the third quarter, and fellow newcomer Noveroske added five points and a pair of rebounds.
4
th Quarter
- Toledo held Northwestern Ohio without a field goal in the fourth quarter, only allowing four Racer free throws.
- Senior Mariah Copeland started off the scoring with a 3-pointer to make it 74-19 at the 8:26 mark.
- Freshman Ella Doherty knocked down her first shot of the day in the fourth quarter as well, draining a three at the 6:20 mark.
- Sophomore Halle Idowu provided six rebounds, five points, and two steals in the final frame, making both of her shot attempts.
