VERO BEACH, Fla. – Three Rockets shot career-best rounds to put Toledo in second place at 19-under par 557 after Sunday's action of the Quail Valley Collegiate Invitational. The tournament is being played at the par-72, 7,460-yard Quail Valley Golf Club.
"Our team does a good job of game planning and working together to make sure they're all on the same page when it comes to how to play a course," Head Coach
Jeff Roope said. "This event is no different. These guys feed off each other's energy. They still feel like they left some shots out there but are happy to see continual improvement."
Sophomore
Barend Botha is leading Toledo and tied for first place at 10-under par 134. Botha fired a career-low seven-par seven-under 65 in his opening round before carding a three-under par 69 in his final 18 holes. Botha tallied 13 birdies and three bogeys over 36 holes today.
Sophomore
Jamie Tofte Nielsen and senior
Max Siegfried also registered their best rounds as collegians.
Nielsen shot a four-under 68 before posting a two-under 70 and is tied for 10
th place at six-under par 138. Siegfried opened his day with an even-par 72 before notching a career-low three-under 69 and is tied for 19
th place at three-under par 141.
Nielsen eagled the par-five, 622-yard No. 3 hole twice today, while Siegfried was flawless in his final 18 holes with three birdies and 15 pars.       Â
Senior
Lukas Clark is tied for 45
th place at even-par 144 (73-71), while senior
David Amm is tied for 67
th place at four-over par 148 (75-73).
No. 11 Kansas is leading the 16-team field with an impressive 28-under par 548 (277-271). Botha is tied with the Jayhawks' Harry Hillier (68-66) and Callum Bruce (68-66) as well as South Florida's Luke Gifford (65-69).
The final round of the tournament will begin tomorrow with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start.
