TOLEDO, Ohio – The Toledo women's basketball program has established a partnership with renowned brand marketing consultant Jeremy Darlow to assist Rocket student-athletes in character, leadership, career development and social responsibility. This alliance will allow the Rockets to know and develop their brand. The women's basketball team becomes the second UToledo program to partner with Darlow in recent weeks, joining the football program.
With this partnership, the Rockets will have access to Darlow's online course,
The DARLOW Rules, which is dedicated to college student-athletes developing and growing their personal brands. They will receive a step-by-step guide to use their athletic influence to help create a successful professional future that reaches beyond sports.
"We are thrilled to partner with a leading brand consultant like Jeremy," Head Coach
Tricia Cullop said. "Because new NCAA legislation allows student-athletes to benefit from their name, image and likeness, it is imperative to help our players build a brand, learn marketing strategies and establish plans for their future. This partnership is a big win for our program."
Redshirt freshman
Yaniah Curry echoed the sentiments of Coach Cullop.
"Our team is really excited for the opportunity to work with Jeremy and build on character, leadership and social skills that will carry over into other areas of our lives."
Darlow is the former director of marketing for adidas football and baseball, an adjunct marketing professor, and the author of the best-selling books
Brands Win Championships, a branding guidebook for college sports programs and
Athletes Are Brands Too, a book dedicated to teaching athletes how to build a personal brand that transcends sports. Darlow is also well known for his approach to creating disruptive brand activations.
"Coach Cullop and her staff are dedicated to setting up each and every student-athlete in her program for success in life beyond sports," Darlow said. "It's bigger than basketball at the University of Toledo, and I'm honored to be able to help the young women on this team plan for their futures."
During and since his role at adidas, Darlow has worked with some of the most heralded athletes that include Aaron Rodgers, Von Miller, Adrian Peterson, Dak Prescott, Kris Bryant, Carlos Correa, Lionel Messi and Dale Earnhardt, Jr., as well as celebrities such as rappers Snoop Dogg and Kanye West.
