TOLEDO, Ohio — The Toledo women's golf team plays its first tournament of the spring when it heads south to Florida to compete in South Florida's Old Friends Invitational in Tampa, Fla. The 54-hole tournament will be held at the par-72, 6,286-yard Tampa Palms Golf & Country Club on Monday-Tuesday, Feb. 17-18. Both days of competition will begin with an 8:15 a.m. shotgun start.
Â
"We're ready to play again after a productive off-season filled with learning," Head Coach
Jenny Coluccio said. "Energy has been our main focus. Not just physical energy but more importantly mental and emotional energy. We have focused on how we speak to ourselves, respond to situations and motivate each other because they all affect how we are as a team and how they perform not just on the course but in life as well."
Â
Coluccio said her team has worked hard with a variety of conditioning workouts since its final tournament last October.
Â
"Our off-season training is focused on the Titleist Performance Institute's program of mobility, stability and recovery," Coluccio said. "The program is more individualized for what each player needs their body to do in order to perform at a higher level. They are moving better and have learned a lot about their bodies and what is needed to recover faster."
Â
The Rockets have also taken advantage of their indoor facility to prepare to play in their first tournament of the spring.
"We taken advantage of being indoors by focusing on our energy, mental games and the process in mechanics," Coluccio said. "Trackman and SAMPutt Lab provide great resources for us when we want the feedback in results and training. However, tournament golf requires a lot of mental preparation and being indoors allows us to focus on that process and not get caught up in ball flight or results."

Senior
Saranlak Tumfong leads the Rockets with a career-best 74.4 stroke average. Freshman
Amelia Lee ranks second on the team with a 79.3 scoring mark. Seniors
Thunpijja Sukkasem and
