TOLEDO, Ohio – Senior offensive lineman and team captain Bryce Harris has been named a candidate for the Senior CLASS Award, one of 30 candidates announced on Friday.

To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I FBS senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition.

A two-time team captain, Harris was named to the Outland Trophy watch list prior to the start of this season, the second year in a row he has been named to the award's watch list. He was a 2018 second-team All-MAC selection and has appeared in 40 games during his career. As the starting center in 2018, he helped lead an offense that led the MAC in scoring (40.4) and was second in total offense (443.8) and rushing (215.9). Harris started 13 games in 2017 at three different spots, playing a key role on the Rockets' MAC Championship team.

Harris graduated in May of 2019 with his bachelor's degree in psychology with a minor in school counseling. He is currently pursuing his master's degree in counselor education.

Off the field, Harris was named to the 2019 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team and has been an active participant in the football program's many community service events. While pursuing his postgraduate degree in counselor education, Harris has been counseling high school students at St. John's Jesuit High School.

To determine the overall Senior CLASS Award winner, the 30 candidates are narrowed to ten finalists at the end of the regular season, and those names will be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system available to media, coaches and fans, who will select one candidate who best exemplifies excellence in the four Cs: community, classroom, character and competition. Along with the winner, the ten finalists will be awarded Senior CLASS Award first-or second-team honors.

An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School, the Senior CLASS Award honors the attributes of senior student-athletes in four areas: community, classroom, character and competition. The award program is designed exclusively for college seniors who are utilizing their complete athletic eligibility, remaining committed to their university and pursuing the many rewards a senior season can bring.
