TOLEDO, Ohio – The University of Toledo swimming and diving team held its annual Blue and Gold Intrasquad meet Friday afternoon at the UToledo Student Recreation Center, and saw Team Gold post a 122-107 win over Team Blue.
"It was a great start to the season," said interim head coach Brie Globig. " They all executed their races very well, and we're excited to see how they progress. We had a lot of fun and that's all we can ask for right here. We had a few girls stand out for us today, freshman Lauren Kilgore had a some great, hard races. Duda Sales did well in her butterflies and had some great times. To top it off, Izzy Jones had a strong meet as well."
Team Blue opened the meet with a win in the 100 IM, as redshirt-freshman Kennedy Lovell clocked a 1:00.52, finishing over three seconds earlier than Sydnee Dressel from Team Gold. Lovell added a second first-place finish for Team Blue, clocking a 1:48.07 in the 150 breaststroke. Junior Izzy Jones added another first place finish for Team Blue, clocking a 1:23.05 in the 150 freestyle.
Senior Duda Sales won two events for Team Blue, finishing first in the 50 and 150 butterfly.
Team Gold took four events, as sophomore Ashley Jeffreys and senior Bec Welke placed first in the 50 backstroke and 50 breaststroke, respectively, early in the meet. Sophomore Sydney Jackson and junior Lisa Eriksson added two more events to Team Gold's resume, finishing first on the one-meter dive and the 50 freestyle, respectively.
The Rockets will host their annual Alumni Meet on Saturday, Oct. 5. The meet is set to begin at 9 a.m.
