TOLEDO, Ohio –
Brianne Globig has been named assistant coach for the University of Toledo women's swimming and diving's program, fourth-year head coach Jonas Persson announced Thursday.
"I'm very excited to welcome Brie to the program," said head coach Jonas Persson. "She has an impressive resume and a ton of potential as a coach here at Toledo. Brianne is familiar with the Toledo area and has family in town. I know that she will coach, recruit, and represent the University of Toledo in the best possible way. We can't wait for her to get started!"
Globig comes to Toledo after serving as head coach the previous four years at East Stroudsburg University. Prior to her four seasons at ESU, Globig worked as a graduate assistant swimming and diving coach at the California University (Pa.) in 2013-14 and swam collegiately at Bloomsburg (Pa.) University from 2008-12.
"I am grateful and excited to have been hired as the assistant swimming coach at The University of Toledo," said Globig. "I am eager to begin working with a team that is both athletically and academically driven. I look forward to coaching alongside Head Coach Jonas Persson, with his wealth of knowledge and experience in swimming."
At ESU, Globig coached eight individuals who qualified for the PSAC championships in the 2018-19 season, including a fifth-place finish in the 100 freestyle. The Warriors set 14 school records and two pool records during Globig's time at ESU. Globig led the Warriors to their best finish at the PSAC Championships in 16 years during the 2017-18 season, as seven Warriors combined for 27 scoring performances at the conference meet. ESU saw two individuals qualify for "A" finals for the first time in five years, with two swimmers earning a top-10 finish. The Warriors also notched a fifth-place finish in the 400 free relay, their best relay finish since 2004. ESU also had a strong showing in the classroom last season, earning CSCAA Scholar All-America team honors by registering a 3.34 team grade-point average.
Primarily working with distance swimmers at the California (Pa.) as a graduate assistant coach, the Vulcans produced 13 PSAC qualifiers and one NCAA Division II national qualifier. Cal U swimmers also broke one school individual record, one relay record and one pool record.
As a four-year swimmer at Bloomsburg, Globig qualified for the PSAC Championships in three freestyle events during her last three seasons with the Huskies. Globig also earned NCAA "B" standard times in 2010, 2011 and 2012 in two different events.
Globig graduated from Bloomsburg in 2012 with a degree in pre-physical therapy and health science. In 2014, she earned her master's degree in sport management with a concentration in intercollegiate athletic administration from California (Pa.).
