Muncie, Ind. - The Toledo women's track and field team earned their first podium appearance of the weekend when senior
Jennifer Lichter took third place in the 10,000 meters in day one of the 2019 Mid-American Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Muncie, Ind. on Thursday. Lichter finished with a time of 35:50.45 and put six points on the board for the Rockets.
Toledo athletes also advanced into Saturday's finals in the 1500m, 200m and 400m hurdle events.Â
Â
"We got four people through to finals," said head coach
Linh Nguyen. "We have one in position to score in the multis and got some points on the board in the 10K, so overall it was a pretty solid first day.
Jennifer Lichter, as always, ran really tough. It's super humid out here and I think it affected a lot of people in the 10K, but she just hung in there, ran really tough and locked that up. She had it pretty much locked up for about halfway through, so it was a good race.
"It's going to be chilly tomorrow, unlike today so weather's going to be different. The name of the game tomorrow is just qualify. We just have to get as many people to Saturday as we can. Saturday's where you really start picking up points."
Â
In the 1500 meters, seniors
Petronela Simiuc and
Janelle Noe earned their spots in the finals, taking first (4:43.04) and ninth (4:43.91), respectively. Fellow senior
Nautica Hill squeaked into the 200-meter finals after stopping the clock at 24.35 to take ninth. Junior
Yana Khabina finished sixth in the 400m hurdles, posting a time of 1:02.23 to qualify for Saturday's race.Â
Â
After four events in the heptathlon, junior
Atalia Lima sits ninth in the standings with 2716 points and freshman
Holly Nation is 16th with 2039 points. The heptathlon will conclude Friday with the long jump, javelin, and 800m.Â
Â
Up Next
The Rockets open the second day of competition at noon with the heptathlon, at 3:30 p.m. with the shot put, and at 6:05 p.m. with the 100m.Â
