Box Score Richmond, Va.— The Toledo baseball team dropped its Saturday afternoon contest at the University of Richmond, falling 6-4 to the Spiders.

UT's only offense came off the bat of senior Brad Boss, who drove in all four runs with a second-inning grand slam. Richmond scored twice in the third to pull within one, then plated two runs in the seventh to take the lead for good. An insurance run for UR in the bottom of the eighth brought the final score to 6-4.

Boss produced all of Toledo's offense, collecting a game-high three hits in the process. Sophomore John Servello and freshman Thomas Eitniear both tallied base hits as well. Junior Doug Smith was the Rockets' starting pitcher, throwing five innings and striking out three. Sophomore Kyle Bischoff and freshmen Jamie Myers and Aric McAtee each all tossed an inning out of the bullpen.

Toledo will conclude play in the Spider Invitational with a 10:00 a.m. matchup with Bryant on Sunday.

How it Happened
  • Richmond scored a run in the bottom of the first on a solo home run to right field, taking a 1-0 lead.
  • Boss answered back with a no-doubter of a grand slam to right field to give the Rockets a 4-1 advantage. The Rockets loaded the bases with walks from Eitniear, junior Michael Ryan, and senior Riley Campbell and Boss cleared them with one swing of the bat.
  • The Spiders got two of those runs back in the bottom of the third on a two-run single up the middle, cutting UT's lead to 4-3.
  • Richmond took a 5-4 lead in the bottom of the seventh. After a hit batter and a walk started off the inning, UR tallied back-to-back singles to bring home the tying run, and a sacrifice fly drove in the go-ahead score.
  • A solo home run to lead off the bottom of the eighth inning for the Spiders was the final run of the game and made the score 6-4.
