TOLEDO, Ohio – Toledo women's basketball suffered a 61-54 setback vs. Valparaiso on Wednesday before 3,319 fans in Savage Arena. With the loss, the Rockets fall to 1-4 on the season.

The Crusaders (3-3) connected on 10 three-point field goals and shot 46.7 percent (21-of-45) from the floor to avenge last year's 65-59 loss against Toledo at home.

Carie Weinman led Valpo's long-range shooting effort with a game-high six triples, finishing with a career-best 20 points. Weinman converted 6-of-8 shots from beyond the arc to surpass her previous-best effort of 18 points vs. fellow Mid-American Conference member Bowling Green on Sunday.

Junior Tanaya Beacham paced the Rockets with 13 points, while classmate Tatyana Davis had 10.

Toledo also received eight points from senior Mariella Santucci and seven by freshman Mali Morgan-Elliott.

As a team, the Rockets shot 32.8 percent (20-of-61) from the floor, including 14.8 percent (4-of-27) from three-point land, and 55.6 percent (10-of-18) from the free throw line.

FIRST QUARTER
• Seven different Rockets scored points in the opening 10 minutes, as the teams were tied 18-18. Fourteen of Toledo's 18 points came in the paint, while Valparaiso did a majority of their damage from beyond the arc on the strength of four treys.

SECOND QUARTER
• Beacham caught fire at the outset of the second period, tallying seven-straight points to give the home team a 30-23 lead at the 6:06 mark. The 2019-20 team captain was credited with two field goals and three free throws to make it a three-possession contest.

• Valparaiso retaliated though, with a 10-0 burst to claim 33-30 advantage with 1:59 left in the first half, forcing Toledo to call a timeout. Grace White sparked the run with a three-point field and a coast-to-coast layup to hand the visitors their first lead of the contest.

• The stoppage benefited the Rockets, as they scored the final four points to secure a 34-33 lead at the intermission. Senior transfer Arianne Whitaker converted a pair of charity tosses and Santucci tallied a layup to bring the home crowd to its feet at the break.

• Toledo tallied 20 of its 34 points in the paint in the opening half, highlighted by a contest-tying best nine from Beacham.

THIRD QUARTER
• In the pivotal third period, Toledo was limited to only one field goal over the final nine minutes and as a result found itself down 49-40 heading into the final quarter.

• The Rockets missed nine of their last 10 shots from the field in the stanza, while Valparaiso took advantage of three triples by Weinman to assume a lead it would not give up.

FOURTH QUARTER
• Toledo fought and clawed back within two points, 54-52, on the heels of a pair of three-point field goals from Davis, but back-to-back field goals in the paint by Marlee Profitt sealed Valpo's road triumph.

• The Crusaders ended the non-league matchup tallying seven of the last nine points to make the final score 61-54.

UP NEXT
• The Rockets will battle Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) member Belmont (3-2) on Tuesday, Dec. 3. The opening tip against the Bruins is slated for 11:00 a.m. in Savage Arena and will be shown on ESPN3. Toledo will also host Rocket Women's Basketball's Education Day in conjunction with Tuesday's non-conference matchup vs. Belmont. A crowd of at least 2,500 students, teachers and fans are expected to be in attendance.
