Buffalo, N.Y. - Senior Janelle Noe won the 1,500m in 4:17.01 to break the conference record as Toledo closed out the final day of the Mid-American Conference Championships hosted by University at Buffalo. The Rockets leave Buffalo, N.Y. in third place with 74 points, claiming the second-best championship finish in program history (second place-2012).
Senior Janelle Noe was selected First Team All-MAC while senior Petronela Simiuc and sophomore Athena Welsh were selected Second Team All-MAC following the meet. Â
The Rockets set four personal records and two program records while landing five top-five finishes on the final day of competition.
Â
"The final day was pretty good," head coach Ling Nguyen said. "There were still a couple places where we probably could've had a few more points but overall we can't be upset with it. It started off with a bang in the 1,500 meters with the win and conference record and that was pretty amazing. I feel like the rest of the team just built off that momentum. The rankings were close at the end but we held on to third place."
Â
Following the meet, fourth-year assistant coach Sam Bluske was awarded MAC assistant head coach of the year.
Â
"It's recognition of hard work," Nguyen said. "It's something that the coaches vote on and when other coaches know that you have someone on your staff that works hard it's really nice for them. I'm happy for Sam and proud of her."
Â
Next up for Toledo are the NCAA East Prelims in Tampa, Fla. where Toledo expects to send seven athletes. Competition in the Sunshine State runs May 24-26.
