Athens, Ohio - Toledo's women's swimming and diving team wrapped up competition at the 2018 Mid-American Conference Championships hosted by Ohio University today. The Rockets ended the championships in sixth place with 254 points. Sophomore Izzy Jones earned second team All-MAC honors for the second consecutive year.
The Rockets had a 14-point improvement over last season's score and moved up one spot in the team standings.
While there is room for improvement, head coach Jonas Persson was pleased with the overall effort he saw from his team.
"Today was a step up from yesterday. I'm really proud of the team for how we were able to put it all together in the end," Persson said. "Not a perfect championship, but we moved up a spot, scored more points than last year and we've got a young team with a bright future. I'm very excited with what's coming next."
Standout performers on the day included Jones and freshman Gracie Storm. Jones finished the A-final of the 200-yard backstroke in 1:58.05, earning third place and making the NCAA B-cut. Storm finished the B-final of the 200 back in 16th place, but her prelim time of 2:02.64 was a personal best and moved her into 10th place on UT's all-time top-10 list for the event.
Toledo secured its sixth-place position in the last event of the day, the 400-yard freestyle relay. The squad of Jones, freshman Alida Ramden, freshman Lisa Eriksson and senior Allison Dicke combined to earn fifth place, touching in at 3:23.94. The 28 points that UT earned from the relay team bumped the Rockets over Ohio by one point.
