South Bend, Ind. - The University of Toledo men's tennis team wrapped their first day at the ITA Midwest Regionals on Thursday. 

Senior Vince Anzalone defeated Notre Dame's Andrew Mariados in two sets (6-2, 6-1) and junior Thawin Suksathaporn defeated Ohio State's Jacob Wareti in three sets (1-6, 6-2, 7-5) in the first round. Anzalone went on to defeat UIC's Pelle Strandberg 7-6(1), 6-3 while Suksathporn fell to Northern Illinois' Kris Ortega in three hard-fought sets 4-6, 6-3, 6-1.

Senior Luka Vitosevic fell in a three-set battle to Northern Illinois' Victor Spolidorio 3-6, 7-6 (6-6), 6-2. Valparaiso's Daniel Langston defeated junior Danilo Vukotic 6-3, 7-6 (4-4).

"Today was a great chance for the guys to get the indoor swing off to a good start," said graduate assistant coach Josh Page. "They competed well in all the matches and put themselves in good positions, even though in some matches we didn't get the result we wanted. There are positive signs, however, with more opportunities tomorrow." 

Tournament play resumes Friday with the final qualifying round at 8:00 a.m. Doubles competition will start promptly at noon.
