End of an Era
This weekend is the final time Toledo soccer will play a regular-season match at the grounds of Scott Park. After 20 years at the facility, the Rockets are set to move onto main campus ahead of the 2019 season. UT has played 12 postseason contests at Scott Park, claiming three Mid-American Conference titles on the field (2006, 2008, 2011). Toledo holds a 113-63-11 (.634) record at Scott Park since beginning play there in the 1998 season.
Last Time Out
The Rockets are coming off a weekend sweep that featured them taking down Eastern Michigan on Thursday and Central Michigan on Sunday.
UT won 4-3 in overtime over the Eagles thanks to an early extra-time goal from senior captain
Alena Sidwell. UT was down 3-2 heading into the final minutes of regulation when senior captain
Hannah Scafaria rounded EMU's keeper and tapped in the equalizer to send things to overtime. Two minutes into extra time, Sidwell found space at the corner of the 18-yard box and booted in her first of the year to get UT the win.
Toledo hosted Central Michigan in a 2-0 shutout that came down to the wire. Toledo got the upper hand early into the match thanks to sophomore
Alex Troy, who tapped in a low cross from Sidwell. The Rockets worked hard to defend their lead and got the brace point in the final five seconds of the match. Scafaria was threaded a through ball behind the backline and was able to chip the keeper to seal the win and give sophomore goalkeeper
Madison Perrin her third shutout of the season.
Scouting Toledo
The Rockets are led by Scafaria, who has netted a career-high 13 goals this season. After last weekend's two goals, Scafaria now sits in third place for most goals in a single season at UT and is two shy of tying the record (15: Molly Cornwell 2007, Corrie Hasenjager 2000).
With the weekend outing, the captain leads the conference in scoring by five goals and averages 0.93/game. She's also tied for first in shots (67), second in shots/game (4.79), first in points (27), and second for points per game (1.93). Nationally, Scafaria is ranked second for total goals, fourth for goals per game, and seventh for total points.
Scafaria is backed by an offensively dominant UT squad that has had 10 other athletes find the back of the net this season, most notably sophomore
Sophia Lewis. Lewis has four goals and her seven assists tie her for fifth-most assists in a season at UT. Behind her is Troy who has three goals, followed by freshman
Elbony Rodriguez and senior
Natalie Knauf who each have two goals. Six other Rockets have a goal this year.
Perrin has been Toledo's main goalkeeper this year. Perrin holds a 7-4-1 record with three shutouts, a .750 save percentage, and a 1.32 GAA through 12 starts.
Last Time against Ohio
The Rockets and Bobcats' last meeting was at the end of October in 2017. Ohio got on the board first thanks to Ally Curry fighting her way through the defense and netting her seventh of the season in the 19th minute. UT bounced back in the 32nd and 54th minutes though, getting goals from
Isa Echeverri and Sidwell.
Scouting Ohio
Ohio comes to Toledo having not dropped a contest in five outings, going 3-0-2 in that time. The Bobcats are coming off a 0-0 tie to Akron on Thursday and 2-1 overtime victory over Buffalo. Ohio fell behind early in the match, but Sydney Leckie was about to tie the score at 1-1 two minutes before the end of regulation to send it to overtime. Alivia Milesky got the winning goal seven minutes into overtime off a bad turnover that opened up a scoring chance.
The Hunter Green and White's attack is led by Abby Townsend and Milesky. Townsend has four goals and one assist to Milesky's three goals and two assists. They're both backed by Madelyn Kah, Leckie, and Sarina Dirrig who each have two goals on the season. Sydney Malham and Erin Beurket have split time in net for Ohio. Malham is 4-2-2 with four shutouts and holds a .814 save percentage and 0.82 GAA heading into the week. Beurket is 0-3-0 and has a .733 save percentage and 1.90 GAA on the year.
Last Time against Kent State
The Golden Flashes and UT last saw each other in October last season. KSU won 1-0 that day, winning off a 22nd minute goal from Vital Kats that bent around Perrin.
Scouting Kent State
Kent State enters the weekend riding a four-match winning streak ahead of their Friday contest against Bowling Green and are most recently coming off a 5-2 victory over Buffalo and 1-0 overtime victory over Akron. The Golden Flashes have a solid top line in Kats, Maddie Holmes and Isabelle Mihail who each have five goals on the season. KSU also has six other players who have scored for its side.
Faith O'Neill has been the go-to keeper for the Golden Flashes. O'Neill is 6-4-1 with three shutouts, a .660 save percentage and holds a 1.41 GAA.
