
Chandler Rice Named to NFCA Division I All-Region Second Team

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Chandler Rice has been awarded with 2017 National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division I All-Region honors, the NFCA announced on Thursday. The Louisville, Ohio native has been named to the Great Lakes Region second team at second base.

The awards honor softball student-athletes from the Association's 10 regions with first, second and third team selections. Rice is one of 667 selected student-athletes from 175 programs across the nation to receive an all-region accolade. NFCA member coaches from each respective region voted on the teams, and all the honorees now become eligible for selection to the 2017 NFCA Division I All-American squads.

"This is a great honor for Chandler to be recognized for her success on a national level," said Head Coach Kristen Butler. "Her effort and hard work that she's put into the game of softball makes her well-deserving of this recognition. She has represented our program and university extremely well over the course of her career. I am very proud of her and it has been an honor to coach her."

The recently graduated Rocket led Toledo this year in batting average (.392), at bats (194), runs (49), hits (76), doubles (16), triples (2), home runs (12), RBI (39), total bases (132), slugging percentage (.680), on-base percentage (.454), stolen bases (21) and fielding percentage (.992). She was a first-team All-MAC selection in 2014 and 2016, an All-Freshman Team selection in 2014, and a five-time MAC Player of the Week.

Rice finished her career with seven entries in Toledo's all-time individual game records, 19 entries in UT's single season records (12 of which came from her senior season), and 14 entries in the all-time career records. The Louisville, Ohio native ranks first all-time at UT with 132 total bases in 2017, 49 runs scored in 2017, .531 career slugging percentage, 50 career doubles and 365 career total bases.

She is also represented in the MAC Softball Record Book 10 times, with three entries in the individual single game records, one spot in the single season records, and six rankings in the league's all-time career records.
Rice graduated from UT on Sunday, May 7 with degrees in human resource management and organizational leadership and was honored with the University of Toledo's 2016-17 Women's Most Valuable Player award. The two-time MAC Distinguished Scholar Athlete consistently excelled in the classroom and was awarded with 2016-17 College Sports Information Directors of American Academic All-District® second-team honors.
