Stephanie Sherman led the Rockets in the Bradley Pink Classic on Friday
Women's Cross Country Takes 20th in Bradley Pink Classic

PEORIA, Ill. - Sophomore Stephanie Sherman ran to a 65th-place finish to lead the Rockets to a 20th-place team finish in the Bradley Pink Classic on Friday evening.
"Overall, I am pleased with the way that our team executed today," said Toledo assistant coach Sam Bluske. "This race gave our younger runners a chance to compete against some great competition."
Sherman was the first Rocket to cross the finish line, stopping the clock at 22:16.6. This was Sherman's best 6K time as a Rocket and just her second-career 6K. Her previous best was a 22:32.3 in the All-Ohio Championships two weeks ago.
Junior Nina Bendixen and sophomore Amanda Bakley raced to 85th and 91st place, respectively. Bendixen clocked in at 22:28.9, while Bakley was just off the pace at 22:31.8.
Freshman Riley Kwiatkowski stepped up in a big way, finishing 138th, with a collegiate-best 6k time of 23:06.0.
Fellow freshman Hannah Sponaugle rounded out the UT scoring with a 161st-place mark. This marks Sponaugle's first top five finish on the the team in her collegiate career.
"We were aggressive from the start," said Bluske. "We kept our composure in a large, talented field and worked well as a team."
Loyola's Lindsey Brewis won the race in 20:36.3, while South Dakota took the team crown with 105 pts.
The rest of the women's cross country team competes tomorrow (Oct. 14) in the NCAA Pre-Nationals in Louisville, Ky.
