TOLEDO, OH - The Toledo track and field program has added a trio of international student-athletes to compete during the 2017 season, announced by head coach Linh Nguyen on Thursday.
The Rockets will welcome Yana Khabina, Dandadeua da Silva and Agata Forkasiewicz to the United States and to the Glass City in the coming weeks.
"I'm very excited about adding these ladies to the program," said Toledo head coach Linh Nguyen. "We are focused on developing a well-rounded program and their addition addresses an area of need. Assistant coach Adrian Ghioroaie has worked extremely hard to get them to Toledo and deserves a lot of credit for bringing these high-level athletes into the sprints group."
Khabina, a sophomore from Kiev, Ukraine, was a World Junior Championship semifinalist in 2016 and a Junior National Champion in the 400-meter hurdles. She possesses a personal best 400m hurdle time of 58.99 and a 200m time of 25.04.
"Yana is young but she will make an immediate impact for our sprints crew," said Ghioroaie. "She is a Ukrainian Junior National Champion and she will be a positive impact to the team."
Da Silva, a Rio de Janeiro, Brazil graduate student, competed in the Pan American Games in 2015 and owns a sub-59 second time in the 400m hurdles, along with a 400m time of 53.72 and a 200m time of 24.26.
"Dandadeua will work on her MBA while at the UT," continued Ghioroaie. "She is very experienced and has a lot of international experience on her resume. Danda will compete in the 400m hurdles and will help the 4x400m relay team. She is a great addition."
Forkasiewicz, a junior from Wroclaw, Poland, was a finalist in the World Championship with the Polish 4x100Â relay and competed at the highest level of the sport in the same event at the 2016 Rio Olympics. She has run times of 7.30 in the 60m, 11.39 in the 100m and 23.23 in the 200m.
"Agata is a phenomenal sprinter that will take our sprint crew to a new level," Ghioroaie said. "She's uniquely experienced within the Mid-American Conference due to her competing in the World Championships and the Olympics. Agata is a very tough person and now she's Toledo tough."
The Rockets will be in competition on Friday, Jan. 20 in the Tom Wright Classic in Bowling Green's Perry Fieldhouse.
