Welsh Leads Rockets to Toledo Opener Victory

OREGON, OH - Athena Welsh won the individual title and Toledo ran away with a 16-46 win over Bowling Green on a sunny Friday afternoon in the Toledo Opener.
Welsh passed an unattached runner with about 200 meters to go and finished with a winning time of 17:33.3. Joan Jepkirui also finished on the podium as she ran a 17:44.0 to take third place.
Jennifer Lichter and Caroline Lambert crossed the line within two seconds of each other and finished fourth and fifth, respectively. Lichter recorded a 17:53.7 while Lambert's time was 17:55.1.
Rounding out the scoring for the Rockets was Theresa Warsecke who finished in seventh place at 18:02.8.
Bowling Green was led by Cassie Boyle's sixth-place finish in a time of 17:56.7.
The women's cross country team races again in two weeks as the Rockets head south for the Mel Brodt Invitational in Bowling Green, OH on Sept. 16.
