Jon Heacock Named Nominee for Broyles Award

Toledo, OH – University of Toledo assistant head coach/defensive coordinator Jon Heacock was today named one of 34 nominees for the Broyles Award. The Broyles Award is given annually to the nation's top assistant coach in college football.

The five finalists will be announced on Monday, Nov. 30. The 2015 Broyles Award winner will be announced on Tuesday, Dec. 8 at 11:30 a.m. at the Marriott Hotel in Little Rock, AR. The Broyles Award is presented by The Rotary Club of Little Rock and Delta Dental.

Heacock, in his second season at UT, is a 31-year veteran of the college football coaching ranks. He has helped guide the No. 24 Rockets to a 9-1 record this season, 6-1 in MAC play. Toledo's defense ranks first in the Mid-American Conference in scoring defense (19.7) and second in rushing defense (112.3). The Rocket also rank No. 2 in the nation in red-zone defense, keeping opponents scoreless in 12 of 32 trips inside the red zone. The Rockets host Western Michigan on Friday with a chance to earn their first trip to the MAC Championship Game in 11 years.

The Broyles Award honors the top assistant college football coach in America and was established in 1996 to honor legendary Arkansas Head Coach Frank Broyles. Coach Broyles had a track record of producing some of the most successful assistant coaches in college football history.
