Toledo, OHÂ - The No. 22 Toledo Rockets will try to make it six straight victories this season when they host Eastern Michigan at the Glass Bowl this Saturday at 12 noon. Toledo (5-0, 2-0 MAC) is coming off a 38-7 Homecoming victory over Kent State that moved them up to No. 22 in the latest AP poll and No. 25 in the USA Today coaches poll. It's the first time UT has been ranked in both polls since the end of the 2001 season.
Toledo's defense continued its dominance last Saturday, holding Kent State to 257 yards of total offense, including just 83 yards in the second half. Senior defensive end Trent Voss led the way with six tackles, three tackles for loss and three QB hurries. KSU's only score came on a fumble recovery in the end zone following a bad punt snap. In the last three games, Toledo's defense has given up just one touchdown, a 51-yard touchdown pass vs. Ball State on Oct. 3.
Sophomore Terry Swanson rushed for 161 yards and junior Kareem Hunt added two scores to lead the offense. Hunt, playing in his first game since suffering a hamstring injury vs. Iowa State on Sept. 19, rushed for 85 yards and two TDs on 16 carries.
Eastern Michigan (1-5, 0-2 MAC) is coming off a 47-21 loss to Akron on Saturday. EMU 's sole victory this year was a 48-29 triumph at Wyoming. The Eagles rank No. 3 in the MAC in scoring offense (29.7) and are led by senior running back Darius Jackson, who is second in the league in rushing, averaging 97.5 yards per game.
