This is the fifth in a series of articles highlighting contributors to the renovation of the University of Toledo's Larimer Athletic Complex.
It only makes sense that a room which will yield so many major decisions for the University of Toledo football program will be named after a judge. The football coaching staff's conference room in the newly renovated Larimer Athletic Complex will be named after Judge Dick McQuade and his wife Jane.
“I am pleased to support the University of Toledo in its latest endeavor to give their student-athletes everything they need to achieve excellence,” Dick McQuade said. “I am honored to give back to the University which has given me the opportunities to do so much in my lifetime.”
“We are very thankful for everything that the McQuades have given to the University over the years,” Athletic Director Mike O'Brien said. “They have been a key part of the growth here at UT in both athletics and academics.”
The McQuades have a long and esteemed history at UT dating back 52 years when Dick received his bachelor's degree, and later his law degree from the University. Jane is a 2003 UT graduate from the College of Arts and Sciences and is a member of Women & Philanthropy at UT.
Dick would go on to be the Ohio General Jurisdiction Judge and to be named a United States District Judge by President Ronald Reagan.
Dick was appointed by the governor as a UT Trustee in 2003 and is the Chairman of the Presidents Athletic Counsel. Dick has also served as a 12th man for the Rockets' football team for their game at the Horseshoe against Ohio State in 2011 where he traveled with the team and interacted with coaches and players.
Jane created the Interview Suit Award to provide four UT law students who might not otherwise have the means with a tailored suit as they interview for employment.
The McQuade's list of donations to the University have been numerous, including funding for the McQuade Courtroom, a teaching courtroom used by the Paralegal Studies Program. In 2012, the University dedicated a brand new auditorium in the Law building in the McQuade's honor. The McQuade Law Auditorium has since been deemed the face of the UT College of Law and is host to all important events.
“We are deeply passionate Rocket fans,” the McQuades said. “We want to help the University in any way possible, whether it is in the Larimer renovation project or an academic endeavor.”
