A two sport athlete for the Rockets, Patty Barrett-Recker earned four varsity letters in both volleyball (1986-89) and softball (1987-90). An outside hitter in volleyball, Recker played in 468 games during her career. During her 1988 campaign, she set the school record for digs in a single season, pulling out .484. One of her best single-match performances also came that year, as she recorded 34 digs and eight service aces against Valparaiso. That year she also earned all-tournament honors at the Rocket Can-Am Invitational and was named MAC "Player of the Week" by registering a .299 hitting percentage with 37 kills and 55 digs. On the softball diamond, Recker was one of the best pitchers UT has ever known. She lit up the mound as early as her freshman year, pitching a no-hitter and recording a stellar 1.09 ERA. An All-MAC selection in 1989, she recorded 14 wins, 49 strikeouts, and a 1.19 ERA that helped bring the Rockets a conference championship and a seventh place finish in the College World Series. In her softball career, Recker pitched 703 innings and made appearances in 128 games, starting 98 of them. She is third on the all-time strikeout list, fanning 230 batters as a Rocket. Her 57 wins place her third on the UT victory list, and her 1.72 career ERA is fifth-best in Rocket history. A native of Santa Monica, California, she graduated from Jackson High School in Canton.
