Recap |  Final Stats |  Notes

Head Coach Tom Amstutz

(opening comments)

"Tonight we had some good young players step up and make plays. In a program, you need a talented young group that can come in an help a team through tough situations."

(on using two quarterbacks Brandon Summers and Aaron Opelt)

"It was our plan heading into the game to use both of them. Brandon had earned the start and we felt that Aaron has playing well also and that he's going to be able our team too. We want both of those guys to share the duty and that's going to make our team and program stronger."

(on the running attack)

"I want to get the running game stronger because we're going to need it. The running backs as a group ran the ball hard. DaJuane obviously made some big runs and showed some of his talent. Jalen looked strong also. It was good to have Scooter (McDougle) back. We're going to gradually increase his reps as time goes on and try to get him back to where he can help us more."

(on Summers' and Opelt's ability to run)

"Aaron and Brandon both ran the ball well and they both have good mobility. They should be able to add another dimension to our offense."

Redshirt freshman QB Brandon Summers

(on when he found out he was starting)

"The coaches told me a couple of days ago that I was going to be starting."

(on his performance)

"I felt I could have done a little better but with my inexperience I kind of expected it. I just need to keep working hard in practice so that carries over into games."

Freshman QB Aaron Opelt

(on playing in his first collegiate game)

"It felt great out there. The offensive line gave me time to throw and the receivers got open and we just hit them and when I had to run I got out of the pocket and made plays."

(on playing in front of family and friends)

"That's part of the reason I came here. I just want to go out and play football."

Redshirt freshman LB Eric Heller

"We have pride in our defense. Our slogan is B.I.A - Best in America"

"They were on a couple of drives so the turnovers were very important."

McNeese State Head Coach Tommy Tate

"Give Toledo a lot of credit. They have a good football team and took a lot of things away from us. Their offensive line was very good and they had some very good schemes."

"But we did self destruct. We competed well early on but we had too many mistakes."

"We made too many turnovers and we did not do a good job in the kicking game."

"Our execution was not very good. We didn't tackle very well."

"We were still in the ballgame in the third quarter but we score couldn't score."
