UT/MUO Merger | Academic Departments and Majors

The University of Toledo was founded as a small private school in 1872, became a state institution in 1967 and today has an enrollment of approximately 21,000 students and the third-largest annual budget of any university in the state of Ohio.
One of the biggest changes in the history of the institution occurred on July 1, 2006 when the University of Toledo merged with the Medical University of Ohio (MUO). The merger gives UT a spectrum of colleges, departments and programs matched only by a handful of public universities nationwide. It is one of only 17 public universities in the country that has colleges of business, education, engineering, law, medicine and pharmacy.
The Main Campus is nestled in between the quiet, tree-lined neighborhood of Old Orchard to the north and the bustling commercial district of Dorr Street to the south. The Ottawa River runs through the heart of campus, providing a serene setting for students as they cross one of three foot bridges on their way to class.
The Health Science Campus (formerly MUO), about three miles south of the Main Campus, consists of the University Medical Center and other related fields of study, as well as a world-class Hilton Hotel.
The University also features five other campus locations: a 255-acre complex at Scott Park, located about 1.5 miles southeast of the main campus; the Seagate campus in downtown Toledo; the Toledo Museum of Art campus Center for the Visual Arts; the R.A. Stranahan Sr. Arboretum; and the Lake Erie Research Center at Maumee Bay State Park.
