TOLEDO, OH - Toledo Head Coach Stan Joplin announced today the addition of five student-athletes to the Rockets' program for the 2007-08 campaign. Joplin said that 6-7, 240-pound forward Paul Crosby (Holt, MI), 6-5, 180-pound guard James Davis (Columbus, OH), 6-6, 210-pound guard Dante Harvey (Lithonia, GA), 6-8, 235-pound forward Mohammed Lo (Senegal) and 6-5, 215-pound forward Terrance Tubbs (Ypsilanti, MI) have all signed national letters of intent during the early signing period.
"I'm very happy with this recruiting class because it's filled with a lot of athleticism and versatility," Joplin said. "This is an important group that we're bring into our program because we need to replace a talented senior class and keep continuing our success. I think we've done a good job so far, but we're still looking to add two more players, preferably a point guard and a center."
Crosby averaged 16.0 points, 11.4 rebounds and 3.7 blocked shots per game last season while being named to AP first-team all-state squad as well as the Lansing State Journal Dream Team. As a sophomore, he earned all-state honorable mention honors and helped the Rams to Michigan's Class A state title. In PrepSpotlight's rankings, he was rated as the No. 1 power forward in the state of Michigan.
"Paul possesses a big body and has a good touch around the basket," Joplin said. "He's a physical player who will help us rebounding and give us a low-post threat that we'll need to replace Tino."
Davis averaged 16.7 points per game with a career-high of 35 points as a junior for Linden-McKinley High School en route to earning honorable all-district honors. As a sophomore, he averaged 11 points per game and helped the Panthers to the Ohio Division II state semifinals. In PrepSpotlight's rankings, he was rated as the No. 2 wing and No. 8 overall player in the state of Ohio.
"James can take the ball to the basket and shoot it from the outside as well," Joplin said. "He's the type of player that can stretch the defense."
Harvey played last season at Miller Grove (GA) High School before transferring to Columbia High School for his senior campaign this year. He helped lead his team to the AAAA state playoffs as a junior when he averaged 14 points, eight rebounds and three blocks a game.
"Dante's very athletic, long and he can shoot the ball from the outside," Joplin said. "He's also a good defender and is someone that really fits into our system."
A Senegal native who lived much of his life in Paris, France, Lo averaged 16 points per game at Port Chester (NY) High School last year and is now attending The Patterson School in Lenoir, North Carolina.
"Mohammed is a physical player with a big body who will give us a scoring option down low," Joplin said. "He's also someone that can step out and hit a jumper and run the floor well." Tubbs played high school basketball in Ypsilanti (MI) and was a Detroit News all-metro selection following a senior year which he averaged 14.0 ppg, 11.0 rpg and 5.0 apg in 2004-05. He graduated from the Harmony Community School in Cincinnati, OH in 2006.
"Terrance is a physical player that possesses a lot of versatility," Joplin said. "He's a good shooter and ballhandler who can also post up down low."
