Central Michigan at Toledo
Oct. 7, 2006
Glass Bowl

Team Notes:

Toledo suffered just its third loss in its last 39 home games with its 42-20 setback tonight against Central Michigan.

Tonight's loss snapped a six-game winning streak on Homecoming for the Rockets, with their last loss coming with a 20-13 setback to Eastern Michigan in 1999. UT is now 53-24 all-time in homecoming contests.

The loss drops the Rockets to 0-2 in the MAC standings. It is the first time since 1992 that UT has started the conference with a pair of losses.

The 42 points the Rockets surrendered are the third-most tallies allowed in the all-time series against the Chippewas and the most since CMU totaled 45 points against UT in 1994.

Looking at the statistics, Toledo had more first downs (29-20), yards rushing (174-92), yards passing (313-295), total offense (487-387) and time of possession (34:34-25:26), but was victimized by four turnovers, which the Chippewas translated into 21 points.

Player Notes:

Freshman QB Aaron Opelt made his first collegiate start tonight and finished 31-for-52 for 288 yards and three touchdowns. It is the first time a true freshman has started at UT since A.J. Sager started against Miami in 1983. The 52 pass attempts are tied for the fourth-most attempts in a game in school history. Opelt also carried the ball a team-high 20 times for 54 yards.

Senior WR Steve Odom hauled in five passes for 41 yards, including his first touchdown reception of the season. Odom has now caught a pass in 43 straight games, every game of his four-year career and the longest streak in the nation. He is now tied for third in school history with 18 career touchdown receptions and became just the second player in school history to surpass 200 career receptions.

Senior TE Chris Hopkins caught a team-best 11 passes for 84 yards and two touchdowns. For the season, Hopkins leads the team with 39 catches for 392 yards and five TD's. It also marked the third time this season he has had at least 10 catches in a game.

Junior FS Tyrrell Herbert recorded a team-high and career-best 11 tackles tonight against CMU. The co-captains previous best effort was nine stops on two occasions, with the most recent coming against Northern Illinois on Nov. 16, 2005.
